Recording and editing videos in OBS Studio and Shotcut
An introduction to the basics of recording and editing videos in OBS Studio and Shotcut. In particular this video focuses on creating training materials for remote learning using screen capture.
Video recording is done using the open source tool, OBS Studio, which can be downloaded from obsproject.com/.
Combining and editing recorded videos is performed with the (also open source) tool Shotcut, which can be downloaded from www.shotcut.org/.

GTOAT Greatest Tutorial Of All Time
I think obs is fucking software and no youtuber teach it simply. UA-camrs teach this software very complicatedly
how do i cut my video thats too long pls help me
The easiest way is to use the sliders to the left and right when importing. This is covered around 7 minutes into the video. For long videos this can be imprecise, so the better way is to import the full video, then split the video and remove the bit you don't want. This method is covered around 9 and a half minutes into the video.
90% talk 10% tutorial
Lifesaver for stitching my dissertation vid presentations together, cheers!
Great video!! Thanks for the help!
I don't know how I got this far before discovering Shotcut but thank you for the recommendation and 'getting started' tutorial.

this video wasn't too helpful for me because I'm new to PC and he's talking about "shopcut" and i have no idea what that is or how to get it, maybe that could've been incorporated into the video.
Hi, thanks for the feedback. Shotcut is a video editing software, that we can use on the videos created by OBS Studio. There's a link to download Shotcut in the video description.
Thanks for the informative video, I'm new to Editing and this video was very useful for me
I have a problem in my shotcut, when a tried to export It says "Unable to locate this file". I uninstalled and installed, but is not possible to export a mp4 o keep a project.
This video explains me much things and that with the picture was nice. But I wanna know how to edit a text.
hi i dont find the shortcut app please help me
But wtf is shotcut?!
Lololol right!?
Yes man lol
Keep doing what your doing!
Thanks! From now on, I am going to start editing my videos BEFORE I upload them to UA-cam.
thats great but the shortcut is a bit too hard!!
ty good sir
Thank you :)
how do i add text
To do this in Shotcut, select the video clip you want to add text to from the timeline, then select "Filters" on the left and click "+" and select "Text: Simple". This will show controls for formatting the text. You can enter the text to display in the "Text" box and drag/resize the text box via the video preview window.
@@_sjcross thank you
Merge all my videos in one and make my recorded video into fast
hi. how can we select a certain area of screen to record it in obs ( adjustment of dimensions in for display capture)? any settings for that? your reply would be of great help😃
Hi! Once you've added the full screen "Display capture" it will appear in the list of "Sources". If you right-click it from this list and select "Filters" (near the bottom of the list) you can add a filter (+ icon in the bottom left) for "Crop/Pad". It's a bit trial and error as you have to enter the dimensions of the crop manually, but once done, you can drag/resize this input in OBS's main preview window. Alternatively, if you're looking to capture from a specific application, you can use the "Window capture" input, which allows you to select a single window. Hope that helps!
nice, thank you!
Thanks for the tutorial as ive just started youtube i needed to learn editing so this really helped!
Is SHOTCUT required for viewing and Editing OBS creations?
Nope, they're totally different bits of software. OBS will create video files which don't necessarily need editing to view. OBS has many different formats it can output in such as MP4, which will open in Windows Media Player, VLC player, etc. If you wanted, you could upload videos exported by OBS straight to UA-cam. Shotcut just gives you the option to edit the videos, splice multiple videos together, add transition effects and things like this.
@@_sjcross I would love some assistance. I have OBS. I am able to hit record. But once I hit stop recording, how to I see what was recorded?
When you stop the recording it should automatically save into the videos folder on your computer. On Windows I think this will be something like C:\Users\[username]\Videos. I'm not sure about other operating systems, but should work in a similar way. I've not got OBS infront of me at the moment, but I also expect the default save location for videos can be changed from OBS' settings
@@_sjcross Thanks for the reply. I do see the saved files I just don't know how to open them. I am on a MAC.
@@FriedlandM If you're unable to open them, it could be that OBS has saved them in a format the default Mac video player can't open (e.g. .mkv or .flv). You can change the format that OBS will save to by going to "Settings", then "Output" and changing "Recording format" to say mp4 (this should be supported by most video players). To open any existing videos in other formats, it may be worth trying something like VLC (www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html) which is an open source video player which supports a massive range of video formats.
Very useful video. thank you
Is there any way to automatically start and stop recording to make mini clips for example .. as I’m playing a game it’ll record and make 5 min clips
Not that I'm aware of I'm afraid. I think you've always got to manually start and stop recording with OBS.
how to separate audio and video?
Once you've loaded your video into Shotcut, you can right click the clip in timeline and go to More > Detach Audio. This will strip the audio from the video clip and place it into a separate audio-only track.
im the 69 guy to omment!!!!
